Script Development
The core activity of the MWT is script development, which is
furthered by means of panel discussions, readings and workshopping of
plays by professional directors and actors.
Exciting New Script Development Initiative
Members are encouraged to submit their longer plays for our new, improved panel readings or alternatively to one of our expert
dramaturges.
Chris and Amel, our panel coordinators, hope to schedule a
reading for every month this year and at the at the end of 2008 the two
best plays read will be awarded $250 for the writer to spend on
dramaturgy with either Sam Strong or Melanie Beddie.
Actors
and Directors are currently being offered associate membership to MWT
and we hope that this means they participate in panels and that
their expertise will continue to improve our process.
How Does the Process Work?
How Do I Submit a Script?
- Bring three copies of your script to a monthly meeting or post
them to our postal box
- Present scripts in proper theatre format – not film
- Supply a synopsis. This should not be more than a paragraph, and
briefly explain the plot and the purpose of the play as the writer
sees it
- Provide us with your name, address and phone no. &/or email
address
When and how are plays produced?
Guidelines for Assessment
Interested in some guidelines for how to assess of plays
MWT has reserved two play season slots at the Courthouse Theatre for
2007. One of these is used to stage our short play season, to run for 3
weeks, opening in the week commencing Sept 24 2007.
Members with plays that have had a public reading may apply to use
other slots at a heavily discounted theatre hire rate (for rates, please
contact us). Once a play has gone through the submission process and had
a rehearsed reading, a member may apply to the committee for one of the
seasons. The committee then judges the application based on the feedback
the play received when being assessed and the ability of the writer to
recruit a competent producer.
Bridgette Burton’s
Killing Jeremy went through this
process and was awarded the remaining 2006 slot
for a successful run.
