MelBorn 2011
The MelBorn 2011 season will comprise the work of the writers who submit longer plays for consideration with a view to being selected as an MWT Resident Writer. The Courthouse will be available to the selected writer, director and designated production team for the reduced member rate of $400 per week.
MelBorn 2011 will also include season of short plays, which will be produced by MWT.
Resident Writers:
Resident Writers for 2011 will be selected based on the following process.
* A call for submissions for plays written by members that are between 45 and 90 minutes in length, to be produced autonomously and credited as part of MelBorn 2011 and 'in partnership with MWT' as with the 2009 production of The Cat's Paw by Christine Croyden which was produced by Hoypolloy theatre.
* These submissions should include:
o The play being submitted
o Any dramaturgical reports
o The name and bio of the director
o Production details /company
o Writer's bio and previous productions
* An established
independent dramaturge will then be paid to make
an assessment of the plays submitted and select the MelBorn program for production. The plays will all be assessed without author and director details and those selected will have a report written by the dramaturge to outline why the play has been chosen.
MelBorn 2011 season will then be programmed.
One play/autonomous production 2 weeks
One play/ autonomous production 2 weeks
Short plays 2 weeks

We believe that this approach enables the MWT to return to its original ethos of script development and the model we propose has synergies with those found in other well reputed independent theatre organisations we have researched, including the New Dramatists, Playwrights Foundation, and Chicago Dramatists in the US, and Tarragon Theatre and Finborough Theatre in the UK.
We plan to continue our regular monologue nights and also introduce play workshops as part of our program in 2011.
